This homemade applesauce is a great breakfast recipe, but can also be used for baking – add it muffins, cookies, etc. Just be sure to eat it with some grains and protein to get a balanced breakfast!
- 1 cup apple cider or juice
- 4 apples, chopped (peeled, optional)
- ¼ cup raisins
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- Pinch cloves or allspice
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring often, until thickened (about 20 minutes). Makes 2.5 cups.
