Harvest Open House at Sharing Square Community Garden – September 13th, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
-Hosted by Nourish Community Garden Cooperative at 151 King St., Chester, NS
-Join us for our Harvest Open House and learn about how the garden works and how you can get involved. There will be free food prepared with veggies from the garden, children’s activities, a composting workshop, free herb transplants, and more. The whole community is welcome to share in the bounty of the garden – it is brimming with fresh, delicious veggies and the food is there for anyone to take!

-Come see a flock of mixed heritage breed sheep, free-range chickens, bee hives and learn about their rotational grazing method. Visit their greenhouses, caterpillar tunnels & gardens to see how biodynamic principles are used to grow crops. Drinks, refreshments and produce will be available!

Film Screening: Just Eat It – September 23rd, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
-Presented in partnership with South Shore Public Libraries and the Community Sustainability Network at the Margaret Hennigar Public Library, 135 North Park Street, Bridgewater, NS.
-Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of food waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. Just Eat It brings farmers, retailers, inspiring organizations, and consumers to the table in a story that is equal parts education and delicious entertainment. All welcome! Every Saturday, New Glasgow patrons are challenged to come to the farmers’ market and purchase ingredients to make their own ‘Market Made Meal’! Make a local meal, snap a photo of the finished plate, upload it to their Facebook page and name the vendors that you visited to make your meal. Each week in September, contest participants will be entered to win a $20 gift certificate to redeem at the market on the following week. Draws will be made on Thursdays, so there’s plenty of time to get cooking!

Market Fare Community Dinner – September 2nd, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Pay $12 at the door and receive fresh, local salad greens, fresh baked bread, water and $12 worth of market money. Tour the dairy facility, interact with the calves, and view the cows being milked at 5 p.m. There will be static displays, guided tours throughout the day and a chance to hike to the top pasture for a great view of Mabou.

The Cape Breton Farmers’ Market will be hosting a dinner with fabulous local food, fantastic local music and wonderful friends. More than 50% of the food used in our menu will be from our vendors at the market! Event Cost: Adults $20,  Children (ages 2-12) $10.
