  8. I love the 50% local idea. One issue for me as a senior is the difficulty of carrying heavy bags around and the paucity of places to sit at the Seaport Farmers Market.

  11. I source my food locally to support the local economy and to fight against big business.

I want the money I pay to go to small scale producers in Nova Scotia rather than to multi national corporations who do not redistribute the wealth. I want to support small scale agriculture here in Canada, because a lot of our food can be grown here and we don’t need to waste fuel and labour to import these foods from halfway accross the world. It’s important even for industrialized nations to continue to produce their own food and to be a central part of their local economy.

I don’t want to loose touch with where my food comes from, so I buy local.

  12. When I moved to Pictou 6 years back, I regularly went to Halifax to get Indian groceries from the Indian store in Halifax and the vegetables from Pete’s. I still go to the Indian Store but not so often and my bags are way lighter :). My family and I, we are learning to eat local produce and enjoying it – the farmer’s market, the CSA has been an education for us. Thank you to our local food producers and hard working farmers.

  22. This is an easy challenge living in the Valley. We visit the Farmers Market in Wolfville weekly. We buy our eggs from Betty, fresh veggies from John, honey from Perry and the best breakfast sausages in the world from Joseph to name a few of our regular stops.
